File-Ex 2.0 Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For more information contact: Stan Spielbusch Cottonwood Software (913) 663-3022 File-Ex (TM) version 2 -- Enhances Windows 95 While Bringing Windows 3.x Applications into the Windows 95 EraOne major time-saving feature of File-Ex is its addition of "favorite files" and "favorite directories" lists, conveniently added to the file dialogs. Favorites are maintained separately for each application, and are easily configured to list up to 100 of the most important files and directories used with each program, in any order preferred. In addition, File-Ex adds file and directory history lists. File-Ex will remember the last 25 files and directories opened or saved by each application, which makes finding and using recently-used files as easy as clicking on the list. This is especially welcome with applications that don't keep track of recent files themselves. In addition, the last 25 files and directories used across all applications are listed, making cross-application file handling a snap. File-Ex also saves time by automatically switching to the last directory used for an application when a file dialog is opened. In the Windows 3.x old-style file dialogs (and the Windows 95 explorer- style dialogs if preferred), File-Ex adds buttons to find, move, copy, rename and delete files, plus create, rename, and delete directories. In addition, a file information line gives you the size, time and date of any file you click on, and an "LFN's" button on Windows 3.x dialogs opens a Windows 95 explorer-style dialog, allowing the use of long file names in 16-bit applications. By adding these commonly-used functions to the file dialogs, a lot of time normally spent going back to Explorer or a DOS window to do file management can be used for more productive activities. It can also help keep your hard drive more organized, for instance by letting you delete unwanted files whenever you see them (instead of trying to remember to do it later), and by simplifying the process of setting up new directories when you save a new file. Early users of File-Ex have reported that File-Ex has become a valuable addition to their system. A comment typical of users: "The more I use File-Ex, the more uses I find for it... now it's almost indispensable" -- Mike Richardson, California. File-Ex runs under Windows 95 as a small icon in the taskbar tray, or can be hidden entirely. File-Ex works on any 80386 or better IBM compatible PC running Windows 95. (A version of File-Ex is also available for Windows 3.1x users, with the same features except long filename support.) A version for Windows NT/2000 is in progress and will be released shortly. File-Ex may be purchased by credit card, check or money order directly from Cottonwood Software for $29.95 (plus $2.00 shipping & handling in North America, $4.00 elsewhere ).
